Brazil’s National Archives released a batch of 30 “UFO reports” documented by civil aviation pilots throughout 2023
On November 21 last year, a pilot flying close to the northeastern Brazilian city of Fortaleza saw something he could not explain. A gigantic bright yellow object, an estimated “30 to 40 kilometers” across, which he described as being shaped like a “big pen.”
Then, five to ten minutes later, “in the same manner that it had appeared, it disappeared.”
This account is part of a batch of 30 files released by Brazil’s National Archives, all consisting of civil aviation pilots reporting sightings of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) during their work.
In 2023, Brazil’s Air Force received one such UFO report every two weeks, and an average of almost one a week in 2022. Around 800 records have been taken by the Air Force and cataloged by the National Archives, dating back to 1952.
The UFO reports follow a standard questionnaire, noting information such as when and where the sighting took place, whether there are photographs or video footage of the sighting, characteristics of the UFO in question, weather conditions at the time of the sighting, and information about the person who is reporting the occurrence
